How to Turn On NSFW on Discord: Every Setting, on Every Device
92,900+ members (Oct 24, 2026) · free · strictly 18+ · How to join in 3 steps
Discord has no single “NSFW on” switch. What you can see depends on four separate things: your account’s age group, your sensitive content filters, whether a channel or server is marked age-restricted, and, on iPhone and iPad only, one extra toggle. This guide covers each one, on desktop, web, Android and iOS, using Discord’s own Help Center wording.
If you only need the fix for an iPhone, go straight to our NSFW Discord on iPhone guide. If you want to know what Discord allows in the first place, see Discord’s NSFW rules in plain English.

The short answer
- Check your age group. Open User Settings → Account Status. Only the Adult Age Group can open age-restricted servers and channels. If it says Teen or Unconfirmed and you’re 18 or older, confirm your age there.
- Set your sensitive content filter. In User Settings → Content & Social, set Mature Sexual Media for messages in server channels to Show if you don’t want images blurred. Adults already default to Show in servers.
- Open the age-restricted channel and accept Discord’s warning that it may contain adult content.
- On iPhone or iPad only: sign in on a computer or discord.com, open User Settings and turn on Allow access to age-restricted content on iOS. That lets you view age-restricted servers you’ve already joined.
The four settings that decide what you see
| Setting | Where it lives | What it controls | Who can change it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Age group | User Settings → Account Status | Whether you can open age-restricted servers and channels at all | You, by confirming your age if you’re an adult |
| Sensitive content filters | User Settings → Content & Social | Whether flagged images and videos show, blur or are blocked | Adults; teen and unconfirmed accounts are locked to Blur or Block |
| Age-restricted channel or server | Edit Channel → Overview, or Server Settings | Which spaces carry the 18+ gate | Server owners and admins, who must be adults |
| iOS access toggle | User Settings on desktop or web | Whether age-restricted servers show in the iPhone and iPad app | Adults; it only matters on iOS |
Discord’s Help Center also lists a fifth, smaller setting: Allow access to age-restricted commands from apps in DMs, which controls 18+ bot commands in direct messages. It’s off for teen accounts and only matters if you use those apps (Discord: teen age group protections).
1. Your age group (the usual reason NSFW is hidden)
Since September 22, 2026, Discord places every account in an adult, teen or unconfirmed age group (Discord blog, Sept 22, 2026). Its Help Center says only users in the adult age group can enter or join servers marked age-restricted, and that includes the owners and moderators (Discord: How to Access an Age-Restricted Server FAQ). Unconfirmed accounts, which include many new ones, get the same treatment until they confirm.
Discord says more than 90% of users won’t be asked to confirm, because the age group is estimated from signals such as account age and the communities you’re in, not your messages. If you’re an adult and you’re in the wrong group, go to User Settings → Account Status and confirm. Depending on your region and device, the options include a credit card check, Apple App Store or Google Play age range sharing, Google Wallet, a video selfie processed on your device, an ID scan or AgeKey. Our guide to Discord’s age verification explains each method and what data Discord receives.
Discord verifies age only inside the app. A server, bot or DM that asks you to scan a QR code or send an ID photo to “unlock NSFW” is not Discord; see our NSFW Discord safety checklist.
2. Sensitive content filters (why images are blurred)
Blurred pictures are a different setting from age-restricted channels. Discord runs two image filters, Mature Sexual Media and Graphic Media, with separate controls for DMs from friends, DMs from others and messages in server channels (Discord: Sensitive Content Filters).
- Adult defaults: Show in DMs from friends, Block in DMs from non-friends, Show in server channels.
- In servers you can only pick Show or Blur. Blocking in a server is controlled by that server’s own safety settings.
- Blur hides flagged media until you tap the eye icon; tap it again to re-blur.
- Teen and unconfirmed accounts are set to Blur in servers and friends’ DMs, and Block for others. Changing any of these to Show requires confirming you’re an adult.
To change it on desktop or web, click the cog next to your name, open Content & Social and find Sensitive content filters. On mobile, tap your profile picture, then the settings cog, then Content & Social.
3. Turning on NSFW on desktop and web
- Open User Settings with the cog icon at the bottom left.
- Account Status: confirm you’re in the Adult Age Group.
- Content & Social: set the server-channel media filter to Show, or leave it on Blur if you’d rather reveal images one at a time.
- Join the server from its invite and open the age-restricted channel. Discord shows a one-time notice that the channel may contain adult content and that you must be an adult to enter (Discord: Age-Restricted Channels and Content).
- If you also use an iPhone or iPad, turn on Allow access to age-restricted content on iOS while you’re here. Discord’s current Help Center places it under Messaging Permissions; some app versions show it under Content & Social.
Desktop and discord.com in a browser have none of the iOS restrictions, so they’re the most reliable way to join an age-restricted server.
4. Turning on NSFW on Android
Discord says adults can join age-restricted servers on desktop or Android (Discord Help Center), so Android needs no extra toggle. Update the app, check Account Status, set your filters under Content & Social, then open the server or channel and accept the warning. If a channel still won’t open, fully close the app and reopen it so your age group syncs.
5. iPhone and iPad: one extra step
iPhone users can join NSFW Discord servers. WRVTHFUL, for example, opens and joins straight from the iOS app. Two extra rules apply only on iOS:
- Servers marked age-restricted as a whole need the iOS access toggle. Turn on Allow access to age-restricted content on iOS from desktop or discord.com, then reopen the app. Discord says adults join those servers on desktop or Android and then see them on iOS.
- A subset of servers focused on explicit content is blocked in the iOS app no matter what. Adults use those on desktop or on discord.com in Safari.
The full walkthrough, including Screen Time checks, is in our NSFW Discord on iPhone guide.
6. For server owners: how to make a channel or server NSFW
- Channel: on desktop or in a browser, click the Edit Channel cog next to the channel name, open the Overview tab and turn on Age-Restricted Channel. Discord says this can only be set on desktop or browser (Discord Help Center).
- Whole server: owners or admins with the Manage Server permission, who must be adults, can turn on Age-Restricted Server under Server Settings → Access on desktop or Server Settings → Moderation on mobile (Discord: What are Age-Restricted Servers?).
- When it’s required: Discord says a server must be age-restricted if the community is organised around 18+ themes or most of its content is 18+, and every channel with explicit content still needs its own age-restricted label.
The rest of what Discord expects from adult servers, including what can never appear on public surfaces, is in our Discord NSFW rules guide.
Troubleshooting: what you see and what to do
| What you see | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| “Age-Restricted Server” pop-up with Confirm Age | Account is Teen or Unconfirmed | Confirm your age in User Settings → Account Status |
| Channels you know exist don’t appear | Age group, or the app hasn’t synced | Check Account Status, then fully close and reopen Discord |
| Images say “May contain sensitive content” | Sensitive content filter set to Blur | Content & Social → set server channels to Show, or tap the eye icon |
| Server works on a laptop but not on iPhone | iOS access toggle is off | Turn it on from desktop or discord.com, then reopen the app |
| One server stays blocked on iPhone with the toggle on | It’s in the explicit-content subset blocked on iOS | Use desktop or discord.com in Safari |
| “Invite invalid” before you can even join | Expired or deleted invite, not an NSFW setting | Test it with our Discord invite checker |
Skip anything that promises an NSFW “bypass”. Modified clients and token tools break Discord’s terms and are a common way accounts get stolen.

Turning on NSFW on Discord: FAQ
How do I turn on NSFW on Discord?
There isn’t one NSFW switch. First check User Settings → Account Status: only the adult age group can open age-restricted servers and channels. Then, in User Settings → Content & Social, set the sensitive content filter for server channels to Show if you want images unblurred. Open an age-restricted channel and accept Discord’s warning. On iPhone or iPad, also turn on the iOS access toggle from desktop or the web.
Why can’t I see NSFW channels on Discord?
Usually because your account is in the teen or unconfirmed age group, which keeps age-restricted channels and servers locked. Check User Settings → Account Status and confirm your age if you’re an adult. On iPhone or iPad, age-restricted servers also need the iOS access toggle, which you turn on from desktop or the web.
Why are images blurred in an NSFW Discord channel?
That’s Discord’s sensitive content filter, which is separate from age-restricted channels. Adults can change it in User Settings → Content & Social: set Mature Sexual Media for messages in server channels to Show, or keep Blur and tap the eye icon to reveal one image. Teen and unconfirmed accounts can’t change it until they confirm they’re adults.
Can I turn on NSFW on Discord mobile?
Yes. On Android, adults can join and open age-restricted servers and channels in the app. On iPhone and iPad, most servers, including WRVTHFUL, join fine in the app; age-restricted servers need the “Allow access to age-restricted content on iOS” toggle, which you turn on once from desktop or discord.com.
Do I have to upload my ID to see NSFW on Discord?
Usually not. Discord says more than 90% of users are placed in an age group automatically. If you do need to confirm, Discord offers several methods depending on region and device, including a credit card check, App Store or Google Play age range sharing, a video selfie processed on your device, or an ID scan.
How do I make a channel NSFW on Discord?
On desktop or in a browser, click the Edit Channel cog next to the channel, open the Overview tab and turn on Age-Restricted Channel. Discord says this can only be set on desktop or browser. To mark a whole server 18+, use Server Settings → Access on desktop or Server Settings → Moderation on mobile.
