Discord NSFW Rules: What Adult Servers Must Do
92,900+ members (Oct 24, 2026) · free · strictly 18+
Discord allows porn and other adult content, but only for adults and only in clearly labelled spaces. This guide explains Discord's own rules for NSFW servers: what counts as explicit, where it can and can't go, what server owners have to set up, what's banned even in 18+ spaces, and what it means when you join one.

The short version
- Adult content is allowed for adults. Discord says users aged 18+ may share sexual content that complies with its policies (Sexual Content Policy Explainer).
- It has to be age-gated. Sexually explicit content belongs in channels marked age-restricted, or in servers marked age-restricted.
- Nothing explicit where non-members can see it. That rules out profiles, server names, icons, banners, invites, emoji and stickers.
- Adults run it. The owner and every moderator of a server hosting explicit content must be over 18.
- Some things are banned everywhere. Anything involving minors, intimate media shared without consent, content likely to cause serious harm, and paid in-person sexual services.
What Discord counts as sexually explicit
Discord's policy splits sexual content into two kinds. Sexually explicit content shows genitalia, female nipples, the anus or sexual activity without censoring or obscuring it. Sexually suggestive content may be arousing without showing any of that openly. Discord may make exceptions for educational or newsworthy material, but in general it treats all sexually explicit content as age-restricted: it should only be posted or viewed by people who are 18 or older.
Where adult content can go
Age-restricted channels. Any channel that hosts sexually explicit content must carry Discord's age-restricted label. Rule 9 of Discord's Community Guidelines makes this the owner's job. The setting is a toggle called Age-Restricted Channel in the channel's Overview tab, and Discord says it can only be switched on from desktop or the browser. Anyone who opens the channel first sees a notice that it may contain adult content and that they must be an adult to enter (Age-Restricted Channels and Content).
Age-restricted servers. A whole server can be marked 18+ as well. Discord says a server must be classified as age-restricted if the community is organised around 18+ themes or most of its content is 18+. Owners or admins with the Manage Server permission, who must be adults themselves, can switch it on under Server Settings > Access on desktop or Server Settings > Moderation on mobile. If an owner doesn't, Discord can apply the designation itself and tells the owner through a system message. Owners who think that was a mistake can appeal to Trust & Safety under NSFW Server Owner Appeals (What are Age-Restricted Servers on Discord?).
The two work together. Owners must still age-gate channels with mature content, and a few age-restricted channels don't by themselves mean the whole server needs the 18+ designation.
Where explicit content is never allowed
Anything people can see without joining the server is off-limits, even for an adults-only community. Discord lists:
- Your profile: username, display name, avatar, banner, About Me and custom status. Server profiles count too, unless that server is entirely age-gated.
- The server's public face: server name, icon, banner, invite link and invite background (splash).
- Things that travel: emoji and stickers, because they can be used outside the server.
- DMs nobody asked for: Discord's advice is not to send sexual content directly to people unless you're sure they want it.
Discord's public discovery features are off-limits as well. The Discovery Guidelines say servers that opt into any publicly viewable feature should suit everyone aged 13 and up, so adult servers don't appear in Server Discovery. That's why they're listed on their own websites and in third-party directories.
What an NSFW server owner has to do
- Keep the team adult. The owner and every moderator must be 18+. Only adult accounts can enter age-restricted servers, including owners and moderators (Discord Help Center).
- Label every explicit channel as age-restricted, even in a server that's already marked 18+.
- Mark the server age-restricted if it's built around adult content or most of what's posted is 18+.
- Keep public surfaces clean: the name, icon, banner, invite background, emoji and stickers.
- Moderate and report. Remove banned content and report serious violations to Discord through its in-app reporting.
What's banned even in 18+ spaces
An age gate doesn't make everything acceptable. Under Discord's Community Guidelines and policy explainers, these are not allowed anywhere on Discord:
- Anything sexualising minors. Discord has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material, including drawn, animated and AI-generated media, and for grooming and sextortion. It reports CSAM and grooming to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
- Intimate media without consent. Sharing sexual or suggestive content of an adult without their explicit consent is banned, including leaked images that were originally made with consent.
- Content likely to cause serious harm. Sexual content likely to lead to serious bodily harm or death isn't allowed, even if everyone involved agrees to it.
- Sexual solicitation. Advertising, arranging or paying for in-person sexual services is banned, even though sharing sexual content between adults is allowed (Sexual Solicitation Policy Explainer).
What the rules mean when you join
Users aged 13 to 17 can't join or view age-restricted servers. If your account is in Discord's teen group or hasn't confirmed its age, age-restricted channels and servers stay locked until you confirm you're an adult. Some regions require age assurance first. You can see your group under User Settings > Account Status. Our Discord age verification guide explains the options and what happens to your data.
On iOS, Discord asks adults to turn on Allow access to age-restricted content on iOS in Messaging Permissions on desktop, after which age-restricted servers they're in open on iPhone. A subset of servers dedicated to explicit content is blocked in the iOS app and works on desktop and the web. WRVTHFUL opens fine on iPhone. Can't see channels? Confirm your age in Discord. Step-by-step help is in our NSFW Discord on iPhone fix.
Before you join an unfamiliar server, paste its invite into our Discord invite checker to confirm it's real and see which server it opens. After you join, look for labelled channels and clear rules about consent and minors; our guide to choosing a porn Discord server walks through the other signs of a well-run one. Our NSFW Discord safety checklist covers the rest.
How WRVTHFUL follows them
WRVTHFUL is a free, strictly 18+ NSFW Discord. Anyone under 18 is banned, adult content stays in age-restricted channels, and the one official invite, discord.gg/wrvthful, is published on this site. We don't ask for ID to get in; some posting permissions use an in-server check. Here's how joining works.

Discord NSFW rules: FAQ
Is porn allowed on Discord?
Yes, for adults. Discord allows users who are 18 or older to share sexual content that follows its policies, but sexually explicit content has to stay in age-restricted channels or servers. It's never allowed on surfaces anyone can see, such as profiles, server icons, invites, emoji and stickers.
Do NSFW Discord servers have to mark every channel?
Yes. Discord's Community Guidelines say server owners must apply an age-restricted label to any channel that contains sexually explicit content. Marking the whole server age-restricted doesn't replace that; Discord says owners must still age-gate channels with mature content.
When does a whole server have to be age-restricted?
When the community is organised around 18+ themes or most of its content is 18+. Owners or admins with the Manage Server permission can turn the setting on themselves, and Discord can apply it to servers that should have it. Owners can appeal a designation Discord applied.
Can moderators of an NSFW server be under 18?
No. Discord's sexual content policy says a server can host explicit content only if the owner and all moderators are over 18. Only adult accounts can enter age-restricted servers, and that includes owners and moderators.
Can NSFW Discord servers be in Server Discovery?
No. Discord's Discovery Guidelines say servers that opt into any publicly viewable feature should be appropriate for everyone 13 and up, and sexual content isn't allowed in public spaces. Adult servers are found through their own websites and third-party directories instead.
Why can't I open an age-restricted server on my iPhone?
Discord asks adults on iOS to turn on Allow access to age-restricted content on iOS in Messaging Permissions on desktop first. Separately, Discord blocks a subset of servers dedicated to explicit content in its iOS app; those work on desktop and the web. WRVTHFUL opens fine on iPhone.
